book-review java6&amp;#xD;
&amp;#xD;
Beginning Java SE 6 Platform I&#039;ve been using Java 6 for a little more than a year now, and quite honestly, I haven&#039;t paid too much attention to the cool new features that this new version provides (with few exceptions, like SwingWorker.) Luckily, author Jeff Friesen provides a detailed guide to the new and improved features in Java SE 6.

    <content:encoded>
    Spring is among the handful of Java application frameworks that is widely used in many enterprise projects. It has become a viable alternative to the more standard JEE technologies. One of its stengths is the support for scripting languages. Spring 2.0 introduced comprehensive support to use dynamic languages. It supports three different scripting languages; JRuby, Groovy and BeanShell.

	<title>The Folly Of Do-It-Yourself Multithreading</title>
    <link>http://web2announcer.com/go/2735434</link>
    <author>unknown@DZone.com</author>
    <content:encoded>
    Many engineering organizations struggle with NIH (&quot;not invented here&quot;) attitudes within their company, since most engineers would rather build than buy. Doing it yourself is more fun - or at least it seems that way when the project kicks off. The challenge of building a multicore application from scratch using the primitives provided by Pthreads or WinAPI threads may be tantalizing, but...read the cautionary post :)

    The primary goal of any web form, says Wroblewski, is “getting people through them quickly and easily”. Forms are barriers between user needs and business goals, and naturally both sides of the equation want to see these hurdles removed. “It’s no wonder,” he continues, “that form design matters.”

    Apress has released several interesting books for Java this summer 2008. Attached below are the list of books which have just been released and a few which are coming soon.&amp;#xD;
&amp;#xD;
Pro Spring 2.5&amp;#xD;
The Spring Framework remains the leader in the move from so-called heavyweight architectures, such as Enterprise JavaBeans, toward lightweight frameworks. Pro Spring 2.5 covers the new features of Spring 2.5, but moreover, it is focused on best practices and core standards of contemporary Spring development.

So last night I broke down and went through it. I’ll have to say I was impressed with what I saw.

	<title>JavaScript: The Good Parts</title>
    <link>http://web2announcer.com/go/2722152</link>
    <author>unknown@DZone.com</author>
    <content:encoded>
    &quot;JavaScript: The Good Parts is about the good parts of JavaScript and how to use them. This book takes a realistic look at the strengths and weaknesses of JavaScript and tells you how to use it to its best advantage. The code samples deal with the language and its merits — creating web pages is not discussed. How to understand the language, to execute the operations you want, is the focus of the book, not how to make rounded corners. The author, Douglas Crockford says, &#039;My microwave oven has tons of features, but the only ones I use are cook and the clock. And setting the clock is a struggle. We cope with the complexity of feature-driven design by finding and sticking with the good parts.&#039;&quot;

    I&#039;m still using the Kindle every day for casual reading, but just now I noticed that my pile of technical books on my desk is taller than my son.&amp;#xD;
&amp;#xD;
Actually, a few of these I&#039;ve already read in manuscript form and I wrote either a foreword or a quote for good ones. The vast majority of the pile are books I&#039;m currently wading through (slowly).

	<title>Practical Django Projects (Book Review)</title>
    <link>http://web2announcer.com/go/2718759</link>
    <author>unknown@DZone.com</author>
    <content:encoded>
    Apress&#039;s newest Django offering, Practical Django Projects by James Bennett, weighs in lightly at 224 pages of actual tutorial content, but trust me, they&#039;re dense pages. Filled with pragmatic examples which directly address the kinds of development issues you will encounter when first starting out with Django, this book makes an important addition to the aspiring Django developer&#039;s reference shelf. In particular, the book&#039;s emphasis on demonstrating best practices while building complete projects does an excellent job of accelerating an understanding of Django&#039;s most powerful features — in a realistic, pragmatic setting — and which a developer will be able to leverage in very short order.

Many of us strive to be a craftsman—we don&#039;t simply want to get by; we want to do what we do at its best. For most people I interact with, that is developing software, working with computers, and languages and frameworks.

    Now, right this very minute, you can learn pretty much everything there is to know about Dojo thanks to 3 newly published books. Writing a book on Dojo is hard in the way the writing a book on Python is hard: there’s so much to talk about, where do you start? Thankfully each of the books takes a different tack, talks to a different audience, and as a result I think the entire spectrum of web developers is pretty well served. Quick summary of the three books by Alex Russell.

    I&#039;m excitted to finally release the official, and completely free, Foundations of Programming EBook. This essentially contains all 9 Foundation parts including a conclusion and some typical book fluff (table of content, acknowledgement and so on). A number of spelling errors were corrected, along with some small technical changes and clarifications - largely based on feedback, so thanks for everyone who provided it! Otherwise it&#039;s exactly the same as what&#039;s been posted here over the past several months.
